British government official passes away after battle with mesothelioma

July 23rd, 2013

A British government official has passed away after a battle with mesothelioma cancer. Parish councilor Alan Edmonds was 64 years old and reportedly contracted mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos during his time with the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy.

Edwards likely would have been exposed to asbestos onboard a navy ship with uncovered pipelines covered in the material. Edwards reportedly was exposed to the carcinogenic insulation between 1964 and 2007.

Thousands of people are affected by asbestos and mesothelioma every year. Many mesothelioma lawsuits allege that companies knowingly exposed their employees to cancerous asbestos. The deadly form of cancer can take decades to develop after initial exposure.
