Dozens of events scheduled for Mesothelioma Awareness Day 2013

September 19th, 2013

Dozens of events are scheduled in the days surrounding September 26th, nationally recognized as Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Events have been scheduled in at least 10 states, one of the largest showings of support for the 10-year old day of awareness to date.

Events promoting mesothelioma awareness largely involve healthy activities, including bike rides, runs, fundraisers, races and kayaking trips. Nearly all of the events are scheduled and run by volunteers, many of whom were responsible for the first Mesothelioma Awareness Day in 2004.

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation will also host an educational briefing on Capitol Hill to educate lawmakers and encourage funding for mesothelioma research. Last year, volunteers raised more than $120,000 for research on National Mesothelioma Awareness Day.
