Ireland passes mesothelioma bill

July 8th, 2013

Ireland has passed a mesothelioma bill aimed at helping mesothelioma cancer patients and their loved ones deal with trauma and costs related to the disease. Many mesothelioma patients in Ireland were “negligently exposed” to asbestos, which is the primary cause of mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma cancer can take decades to develop after a patient is exposed to asbestos. The deadly cancer can attack the lungs or abdominal cavity. The disease affects thousands of people around the world every year, and cases of mesothelioma survival are rare.

Thousands of patients have filed mesothelioma lawsuits against former employers who knowingly or unknowingly exposed their workers to asbestos. The material was prevalent in the construction industry, as well as in shipyards, rail yards and other industrial environments.
